Event Recap: Avicii at Revel

Written by  Jenn Scalia

Grammy nominated and world renowned EDM artist AVICII brought his Le7els Tour 2012 to Ovation Hall inside Revel on Saturday night. Ash Alliance and At Night Management along with Revel and Angel Management Group presented AVICII for the resort’s first-ever electronic music performance.

General admission dance floor tickets to the event were a whopping $150 a piece, but that didn’t stop them from selling out within a few hours. Mezzanine seats were $75, but prohibited you from even going down to the dance floor area of the elevated concert space. VIP table reservations were also available, starting at $3,000 for 8 people! Revel is definitely maintaining their high end status, that puts them “On Another Level”.

As we walked towards Ovation Hall, there was a line nearly half a mile long of partygoers waiting to get their dance on. The show started around 10pm, about an hour later than scheduled. The opening set by local DJs Dance.Philly kept the crowd entertained as the venue filled up.  By midnight the dance floor was buzzing and the party really got started when CaZZette took the stage. Though only half of the Swedish DJ duo was in attendance, the performance was not lacking. In short, I would have to say- he killed it! CaZZette’s energy was on-point and he had the crowd jumping and fist pumping to songs even I had to Shazam.

Avicii’s set started around 1:45am, when his notorious giant mask appeared from behind flowing black drapes. A pair of digitally enhanced lips appeared on the face, mouthing the infamous lyrics of his top charting record "Levels." Avicii followed up with his other well known hits such as Bromance, My Feelings For You, Derezzed and Penguin and even snuck in some remixes of the classic tracks “I Need a Miracle” and “Show Me Love”.

Avicii's show is a true spectacle of sight and sound with a dazzling array of visuals. His amazing set and production brings the sounds and beats atop a giant head that, through 3D mapping technology and other effects, appears to come alive. The ever changing backdrop changed the mood visually as projectors beamed various images onto the face.

The party ended about 3:30am, a little early by my standards (which would have had us going till dawn). Nonetheless, Revel’s first ever electronic dance concert did not disappoint. I’m hoping Revel keeps this momentum going, and by the recent resident announcements for HQ Club, it’s looking like an unforgettable summer for Atlantic City.

A special thank-you to Brian from Shadow PR and Gabe from PMK BMC for everything!
